Great Blue Heron
Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is widespread and best known of the long-legged waders. It is poular with beginning bird photographers because it is big and often stationary making photography easy at times. It is often called a "crane" but is not related to them. They eat a variety of prey items including fish, frogs, snakes, rodents, and smaller birds. All images made at Gilbert Water Ranch
