Long-billed Dowitcher
Long-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus scolopaceus) is a common migrant shorebird in the west, and often winters in AZ in large numbers. It is very similar to closely-related Short-billed Dowitcher; best told apart by call. It is an active feeder in "sowing machine" fashion; they spend much of the day resting on one leg with bill tucked into beathers of back. All images made at various locations in AZ
