Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) adult shows sharp contrast between gray back and white belly; immature is streaked with brown. Most often seen at dawn or dusk; retires to roosts in daytime. A "stand quietly and wait" hunter. All images made at Gilbert Water Ranch.
