Wilson's Phalarope
Wilson's Phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor) females are more colorful than males. "Pot-bellied" appearance with thin "needle" bill makes them distinctive among other shorebirds. Often seen spinning in water to stir up food from below. Wilson's is the least pelagic of the three phalarope species. All images made at various locations in AZ.
