Assorted Grebes & Loons
Yellow-billed Loon (Gavia adamsii) is rare anywhere south of Alaska. This juvenile bird spent a few days at Tempe Town Lake in central AZ in triple digit weather. Eared Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) is a regular migrant that sometimes winters in AZ. This bird was seen for 2-3 days at the Water Ranch, in Gilbert, AZ. Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus) is a rarity in Mexican border states, more often seen in TX than in AZ. This bird was regular at Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson, AZ.
