Franklin's Gull
Franklin's Gull (Larus pipixcan) is more at home on the
central prairies than on the coasts of North America. It
is known as the "prairie dove" due to a perceived gentle
nature. Its appearance is very similar to Laughing Gull
of the eastern and gulf coasts, but eye cresents more
prominent and may show a pink "flush" on the white
breast. Photographed at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ at an
unusual time to be seen in the state.
