Reddish Egret
(Egretta Rufescens) in AZ is a
vagrant from the coastal areas of the Sea of Cortez. There
have been about 30 records; this is the third one I've seen
since 1994. It was discovered in Chandler, AZ, on Saturday,
December 27, 2008. I was able to relocate the bird on Dec
28.
There are two color morphs of Reddish Egret. All western
birds are dark, while about 2-7% of eastern birds (Gulf
coast to Florida) are white.
